Mapungubwe National Park and World Heritage Site is rich in bio-diversity, great scenic beauty and your contribution of visiting the park will ensure the cultural importance and archaeological treasures of Mapungubwe be reserved for generations to come.

The Kingdom of Mapungubwe or (Maphungubgwe) was a pre-colonial state in Southern Africa located at the confluence of the Shashe and Limpopo rivers, South of Zimbabwe. The name is derived from either TjiKalanga and Tshivenda. The name means “Hill of Jackals” The kingdom was the first stage in a development that would culminate in the creation of the Kingdom of Zimbabwe in the 13th century, and with gold trading links to Rhapta and Kilwa Kisiwani on the African east coast.

OUR TOURS

Our ZIP-LINE Tours will take you on a journey into a previously inaccessible realm of nature, as you traverse the upper level of indigenous forest and ancient mountain cliffs, overlooking the spectacular Greater Letaba River gorge. The tour includes awe-inspiring slides and platform viewpoints over three giant waterfalls, each tumbling up to 20 metres into the sparkling river below.

Relax and absorb the tranquillity of your natural surroundings on each platform as trained guides detail interesting facts about the fauna, flora and ecology of the surrounding environment. The Letaba River gorge is home to a wide variety of plant, animal and bird life.

The assortment of colourful wildflowers and orchids draping the surrounding cliffs are sure to catch your attention, and remember to keep an eye out for the Giant Kingfisher which regularly swoops over the river below. Suitable for anyone between 7 and 70. Great for the whole family, nature lovers, thrill seekers and corporate groups. An additional day is required for the Zip-Line adventure .

ELEPHANT BACK SAFARIS (Including Interaction)

  • $150.00 per adult.
  • $120.00 per child (under 12, no children under 4)
  • Elephants can carry 25% of their body weight comfortably.
  • The rides are a maximum of 30 minutes through the bush on ergonomic, soft saddles for the elephants’ comfort.

ELEPHANT SPA

  • $ 85.00 per person.
  • This experience is an add on after the educational interaction or safari, where you accompany the herd up to the top dam to watch the herd swimming while you relax with a soft drink and some light snacks on the observation deck.
  • You will have the opportunity to spend some intimate time with some of these majestic Elephants in the water, while brushing & bathing them (with a bit of splashing thrown in).
  • There are also great photo opportunities where you can pose with the elephants mud bathing and swimming in the background.DETAILS
  • This is an add-on activity to the standard Educational Interaction or Safari.
  • Limited to a maximum of 10 people.
  • Participants must be 12 years of age or older as well as be physically fit.
  • Children under the age of 18 must to be accompanied by an adult.
